HALF PRICE BOOKS FLAGSHIP STORE

DALLAS, TEXAS | 120,000 SQFT | COMPLETED IN 1999

This 1960’s department store was remodeled to house the corporate offices, regional distribution center and flagship store for a national used book retailer. In order to give definition to the large open space, a ‘Broadway’, a diagonal interior pedestrian street, was incorporated into the design. On the Broadway, which terminates in new floor to ceiling windows, are thematic portals that lead to books on that theme. The use of salvaged fir in the construction of the portals reflects the company’s ideology of reuse, and is just one way in which material from the demolition was recycled and incorporated into the renovation.
